Blue Heron PTO Meeting Minutes—February 2011 The Mission of the Blue Heron PTO will be to support students, families and teachers in opportunities that are above and beyond the educational opportunities funded by the school district. I. 7:00 Call to Order II. Minutes-Motion to approve the January minutes with corrections. Seconded/Approved (M/S/A) III. President’s Report-Derek Sadowski (for Kris Fredrick) reported on PTO board member openings for the 2011-2012 school year. If interested in a board position please contact Derek Sadowski or any of the current board members. (All contact information can be found on the Blue Heron PTO website) IV. Principal’s Report-Mr. Melde reported that the History Players visit was once again a big hit. Accelerated Reader software has arrived and is almost ready to go. Training for staff will be happening soon. Basketball hoops have been ordered and should arrive within 2-3 weeks. They will be installed after the ground has thawed. Artist in Residence- Ann Roman started today. Each class has 3 hours of art with the exception of kindergarten who has 1 ½ hours. Thursday is Kindergarten registration. It will be done in an open house style this year. 150 Kindergarten packets were sent out this year. Conferences went well. Monday the choir sings at the Timberwolves game. MCA testing coming up in April. V. Treasurer’s Report—Net funds available $3,914.32 VI. Teacher’s Report- Mrs. Waldvogel reported on the part of the Blue Heron teachers. She thanked the PTO for the meals provided during conferences. Teachers will have decided by the next meeting on how they would like to spend points accumulated from labels. One idea is to purchase a grade level set of equipment (one per grade) that could be used for recess. VII. Committee reports Yearbook—Committee deadline is April 1st. Everyone is working hard to complete assigned portions by the deadline. Book Fair- Dates have been changed to May 3-5th due to MCA Testing. The Spring Book Fair is buy one get one free. If interested in volunteering please sign up on the PTO website. Science Fair—May 5th from 6-7:30. Preparation is going well. There have been 3 meetings so far. Students have received a planning packet, completed an experiment, and are beginning research. There will be 3-4 more meetings. Art Fair-May 5th from 6-7:30. Preparation is going well. Teachers will have the option of using student artwork from recent Artist in Residence classes. DQ Fundraiser-Tuesday May 3rd from 5-8 10% of all sales (DQ in Lino Lakes) will go to Blue Heron. X. Funding requests A motion was made to purchase chalk and paper necessary for the artist in residence activities and artwork display appropriate amount to be determined by Mr. Melde.(S/A) A motion was made to purchase $75 worth of supplies for the Science Fair.
